In 2003 & 2004, I decided to give a planted tank a try. Knowing that my lighting wasn't that great I thought I would suppliment
it with CO2. I did a bunch of research on the Internet and found out how to make a homemade CO2 system. I had a difficult
time keeping a good seal on the cap where the tube connected, but the system did work for a while. Basically it is yeast,
sugar, and water. I also had a problem with pressure. I could not put the tubes too deep or else the CO2 could not overcome the tank pressure.
It seemed as though the plants grew pretty well for a while, but I really think I needed better lighting and soil. After a while,
I just gave up, but I definitely will try it again in the future. The tank had the original two Topfin 30 hangon power
filters on the back and kept the tank at about 78-80 F.
